This is a must watch video if you are a supporter of all things Detroit. Between this video–soon to be released on his concert dvd– and his world-famous Superbowl halftime commercial for Chrysler, Eminem has shed a much brighter light on the city of Detroit. Read more on the video and the people involved in its production in this Detroit Free Press article.
Its videos like these, and the people shown here that inspire me to be a part of Detroit’s transformation. How do we do that? Take Phil Cooley for example. Cooley, the founder and owner of Slows Bar BQ in Detroit (love the logo by the way), created his bar and restaurant with the help of his dad, brother, and friends.
Detroit is a very delicate situation. Yes, the school systems are poor, past city government regimes have screwed us over, and I don’t even want to talk about public transportation. But the thing that frustrates me the most, are people outside of the city of Detroit who are immensely misinformed. So how do we change this perception that people have on our city?
We need more people like Phil Cooley and Mike Archer of Archer Record Pressing (seen in video). These guys are doing double the work load. They are preserving a lifetime of history, and building a future. We should all be following their footsteps and doing a small part.
Check out this interview by Channel 7 ABC Detroit on Slows Bar BQ and Phil Cooley. Amazing story.
